I honestly left the clinic very happy with my visit. Yadelin did my cleaning and was so gentle and attentive, especially in the sensitive areas. She explained what she was seeing as she went along, which I really appreciated. I also had a couple of fillings done by Dr. Kumar and they turned out great — my bite feels completely normal and I didn’t have any discomfort afterward. Viri was a huge help translating everything into Spanish for me. It made the appointment so much easier and I never felt lost in the conversation. Really nice experience from beginning to end. Thank you Yadelin, Dr. Kumar and Viri! 🦷❤️

I have had a wonderful experience here! Angelina and everyone else at the front is absolutely lovely, and I had a great experience with Dr Han getting all 4 wisdom teeth out. They helped me save a significant amount of money on the extraction compared to the other quotes I had gotten from my previous dentist, and have worked with me to get good deals. I will be coming back for future dentistry needs.

Two Types of Tooth Removal

Depending on the position of the damaged, infected or problematic tooth, it will be extracted in one of two of the following ways:

Simple Extraction

Simple Extraction

A general dentist does simple tooth extractions to remove visible teeth, for example molar tooth extraction. The dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the extraction site so the patient won’t feel anything. The dentist will then use an elevator to lift the tooth up and then dental forceps to grasp and extract it.

Surgical Extractions

Surgical Extractions

An oral surgeon does complex tooth extractions to remove not easily accessible teeth in the mouth, such as teeth that haven’t erupted or have been fractured under the gums. Wisdom tooth removal is an example of surgical extraction.

We’ve explained how surgical extractions work in the section below.

Tooth Extraction Surgery

Tooth Extraction Surgery

The oral surgeon will administer: local, IV, or general anesthesia
Your gum tissue will be incised to expose the infected, damaged or problematic tooth.
The bone around the tooth may need to be removed before extraction. The oral surgeon will perform bone grafts if necessary.
Your teeth may require sectioning, a standard procedure that involves cutting a tooth into sections and extracting each section at a time.
Following the procedure, you’ll need to bite on a gauze pad for up to 45 minutes to form a blood clot to begin the healing process. The oral surgeon will give you detailed aftercare instructions you will need to follow to have a speedy recovery.
Tooth Extraction Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is a type of surgical extraction that some people require in their late adolescence. Your wisdom teeth are your “third molars” that don’t erupt until you’re about seventeen years old. The emergence of these teeth can cause gum infection and tooth or jaw pain. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, they will need to be removed.

Tooth Extraction Toronto FAQ’s

Can you suggest some sources on tooth extractions for further readings?

Yes, you can check out some of the following sources:  News Medical, Animated-Teeth, Tooth IQ and Healthline. Contact us if you have any questions about tooth extraction services, and one of our experienced dentists answer all of your questions and address any of your concerns.

Why would I need a tooth extracted?

There are many reasons a patient may require tooth extraction. Perhaps, your tooth is poorly positioned in your mouth, has developed an abscess, become badly decayed, or you have developed periodontal disease.

Will I experience pain during my tooth extraction?

No, due to our sleep dentistry services, our tooth extraction procedures are painless. Depending on whether the extraction is simple or surgical, you will be placed under the appropriate level of anesthesia. If you experience any discomfort during the extraction procedure, our attentive dental team will make you feel comfortable.

When will I be able to eat and drink normally again?

For two to three days after your tooth extraction, you should eat only soft foods like soup, oatmeal, mashed potatoes and pasta. You can slowly add solid foods back into your diet after three days.

How should I care for my mouth after the extraction?

When you’re recovering from tooth extraction, you should take either the medication prescribed by the oral surgeon or over-the-counter painkillers to ease pain, apply an ice pack to your cheek to alleviate swelling, rest for 24 hours following the procedure, rinse your mouth out with warm water and salt, and brush and floss your teeth avoiding the extraction site.
